View: 0 shots on target, 0 successful dribbles – West Brom ace in shocking performance v Spurs

West Brom striker Karlan Grant turned in a very disappointing performance in Albion’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham on Sunday.

Albion had a few chances to grab all three points against Jose Mourinho’s side as the squad turned in a much better performance than they did against Fulham in their last outing.

However, a mistake from Sam Johnstone allowed Harry Kane to flick a header past the Baggies keeper and once again Albion walked away from the game with nothing.

A couple of opportunities to open the scoring fell to Grant but Albion’s big summer signing was unable to score his first goal at The Hawthorns.

Not only did he miss some good chances but the stats from Grant’s outing against Spurs make for disappointing reading.

In his 85 minutes against Tottenham, neither of Grant’s two attempted shots were on target, non of his two attempted crosses were successful and he registered a successful dribble rate of 0%, as per Wyscout.

The 23-year-old really struggled to impose himself against the Spurs defence, which isn’t too concerning considering he was a lone striker up against a good defence, but Grant only won 33% of his offensive duels and 20% of his aerial duels which simply isn’t good enough for a Premier League striker.

More generally, only 28% of Grant’s attempted actions were successful which is really poor. This means that three-quarters of the things the forward tried against Spurs weren’t successful and hampered Albion.

Grant’s heat map from Sunday’s game shows that he barely had an impact against Tottenham’s backline and he had equal poor levels of success whenever he drifted across the defence.

It also shows how deep the forward had to come to have an impact, with his most active areas nearer to the half-way line than the goal line.

It was also clear to anyone who watched the game that Grant put in an especially bad performance as he missed two decent opportunities in the first half before wasting another in the second period.

He needs to find his shooting boots if the Baggies are to survive this season and he also needs to improve his all-round game if he is to actually contribute to Albion’s fight to stay in the Premier League.
