View: Result isn’t the most important thing for West Brom clash v Man United
West Brom travel to Old Trafford after the international break after a much-improved performance last time out in the Premier League.
Albion turned in one of their best performances of the season against Tottenham in their last game but they were robbed of a deserved point by a late Harry Kane header.
The result increased the pressure on Slaven Bilic as the Baggies’ winless run in the Premier League extended to eight games.
Albion face a tough test in their next attempt to pick up three points when they take on a hit-and-miss United side next weekend.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have looked untouchable at times this season, especially in wins over RB Leipzig and Everton.
But they have also lost to Crystal Palace and Istanbul Basaksehir, proving they are not at their best and can be beaten.
Few Baggies fans will be predicting their side to get anything out of this game, which is why another solid performance against the Red Devils would be as good as a win for struggling Albion.
If the Baggies can show moments of genuine quality, as they did against Spurs, then it will show that Bilic has improved his side since the disappointing defeat to Fulham earlier this season.
It would show that Albion do know how to play well and it will give the club and the fans confidence going into more winnable games, such as the match against Sheffield United the following weekend.
It would be pointless for the West Brom ownership to make any decisions about Bilic’s future whatever the result of the Man United game is. But he could make a real case for himself if he can get another excellent performance from his squad.
Ultimately, football is a results-based game and if Bilic survives until the match against the Blades he will have to win that to keep his job.
But another good performance against a top team will settle the nerves of Baggies fans who were feeling hopeless after that dismal display against Fulham.
Who knows? With this Manchester United team, Albion very well may get something from the game if they turn up.
In other West Brom news, a Manchester United player may be ruled out of the next week’s game after testing positive for COVID-19.
