‘Hungry for more’ – New West Brom star convinced he can ‘succeed’ for club and country
West Brom defender Dara O’Shea is keen to ‘succeed at each level’ after his ‘dream’ ascension into the Baggies first team.
The 21-year-old signed a new contract in January after breaking into the first team at The Hawthorns and he recently made his senior Ireland debut.
O’Shea has spoken of how he is ‘hungry for more’ in his club and international career after hailing his breakthrough year as a ‘dream’.
O’Shea is quoted by the Express and Star as saying, “It’s been amazing. It’s been a dream for me. Getting in the team in West Brom, signing a new deal and getting promoted and then making an appearance for my country. But I’m hungry for more.
“Stepping into the Premier League, representing Ireland against some of the best players is totally different to the Championship. I suppose each step I’ve taken to well so far. And I know that if I just do what I’m good at, I can succeed at each level.”
O’Shea started 16 Championship games towards the end of last season and he played a big role in getting his side promoted. He has started five of the Baggies’ eight Premier League games this season and impressed in their last outing against Tottenham.
Few Albion players turned in poor performances against Jose Mourinho’s Spurs but O’Shea was especially impressive in dealing with the attacking threat of Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Gareth Bale.
The late Kane goal was no fault of the Irish international but it leaves his side winless in eight league games this season and the Baggies face the stern test of Manchester United after the international break.
O’Shea’s development has been a joy to watch over the past 12 months and many Albion fans will be hoping he can play a huge role in keeping their side in the Premier League. That can start with another good performance against a hit and miss Man United side this weekend.
In other West Brom news, one Manchester United star may miss next weekend’s game against the Baggies after testing positive for COVID-19.
