Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has predicted, perhaps unsurprisingly, an easy home win for Liverpool against West Brom on Sunday.
It’s the second match in charge for Sam Allardyce and it’s about as hard as it gets, with Liverpool in top form after thrashing Crystal Palace last time out.
West Brom lost 3-0 to Aston Villa and Owen thinks that the score will be the same when the Baggies travel up north after Christmas.
“West Brom suffered a 3-0 defeat away to Villa last time out,” Owen said in his prediction column for BetVictor.
“That was Sam Allardyce’s first match as boss and the task doesn’t get any easier with a trip to Anfield coming up here.
“The champions are in fantastic form. They were purring against Crystal Palace and have really got some momentum going.
“I just can’t see anything other than a comfortable home win in this one.”
Free hit but…
In a way, it’s a free hit for Allardyce in his second game in charge of the Baggies.
Only the most optimistic West Brom fan will be thinking the side will be coming back with anything from Anfield.
We say ‘in a way’ because Big Sam already has a big job ahead of him to turn the fans around.
A heavy defeat will only make that worse after a really dreary first outing under the new manager, that saw West Brom record an xG of just 0.04.
Villa converted their xG almost perfectly and it showed everyone the huge task ahead of the side next year.
There’s no point setting up to attack Liverpool but we really hope the side looks organised and committed.
If not, we really fear for what might happen. Liverpool scored seven without reply last time out against Palace.
A repeat of that is the last thing Big Sam needs.
