Report details big update on Andy Carroll-West Brom transfer speculation

West Brom look set to miss out on a deal to sign Andy Carroll on loan from Newcastle this month.

That is according to Chronicle Live, who claim that Steve Bruce’s side will not look to loan out the forward during the January window.

Carroll has been linked with a move to the Hawthorns, with the Baggies in desperate need of a new striker this month.

Sam Allardyce is eager to add a new forward to his squad following an injury to summer signing Karlan Grant, who is expected to be sidelined for around six weeks.

Despite Carroll’s limited game time this season, it is claimed that Newcastle do not want to strengthen a relegation rival.

A potential blessing for West Brom

There were two potential red flags for West Brom to look out for when considering a potential move to sign Carroll.

Firstly, his sizable wage packet, which is reportedly worth around £75,000 a week at St James’ Park.

That means that any move to bring him in, even on loan, was unlikely to be very cheap given the cost of his wages and it remains to be seen how much money Allardyce will have to work with this month – meaning every penny counts.

Then you have to consider how reliable he will be during a crucial period of the season for West Brom given his injury record.

Since re-joining Newcastle, he has missed 14 games through injury across the 2019/20 campaign and the current season, according to Transfermarkt.

Across the last two and a half seasons, he has only made 40 league appearances and scored just five goals along the way.

Albion will simply need more than that as they look to battle against an immediate relegation back to the Championship.
