‘We’ve not got anybody’ – Allardyce offers bleak West Brom transfer update following cup loss
West Brom boss Sam Allardyce has stated that his side needs two strikers to make up for the lack of goals in the team.
The Baggies were dumped out of the FA Cup on Saturday by League One side Blackpool as Allardyce didn’t name a striker in the starting 11.
Speaking after the game, Allardyce gave an update on the future of Charlie Austin while explaining where his side are looking to improve this January.
Allardyce is quoted by Birmingham Live as saying, “I’ll make a judgement on the players, as will the rest of the staff, as soon as possible and then we’ll be off into the market to find players who make the squad better.
“We’ve let Charlie [Austin] to go to QPR so that creates another opening in terms of finances to get another centre forward.
“We’ve played upfront with nobody today because we’ve not got anybody. We need one, if not two, front-men because we need to score goals.”
Albion have been linked with plenty of strikers since the January window opened but Allardyce has distanced himself from some of these reports.
His side desperately needs goals with the Baggies only scoring on three occasions since Allardyce took over.
The two goals that have come from open play have come from defender Semi Ajayi and the third was a Matheus Pereira penalty.
This needs to change if Albion are to stay in the Premier League which is a prospect that is looking extremely unlikely with the current crop of players starting every week.
Two strikers is the bare minimum Albion need this month as many Baggies fans will be looking for a major overhaul of the squad.
Hopefully, a miracle is on Big Sam’s January wishlist along with these two strikers as that is what it may take for anything to be salvaged from this season.
In other West Brom news, these Baggies fans weren’t happy with this player’s efforts against Blackpool.
