Report details how many signings Allardyce wants to make in January
West Brom manager Sam Allardyce wants to bring in ‘three or four’ players during the January transfer window.
That is according to Birmingham Live, who report that the Baggies boss wants to be ‘extremely busy’ as he gets to grips with his squad.
Speaking after the club’s shock defeat to the hands of League One side Blackpool in the FA Cup, Allardyce said: “I’m hoping to be extremely busy in the window, as I have been busy at other clubs who have been near the bottom of the table.”
A new striker is likely to be high on the list of priorities for the Baggies after an unfortunate injury to Karlan Grant.
West Brom lined up without a recognised forward against Blackpool, with Callum Robinson rested in preparation for Wolves.
Allardyce must lift Albion spirits first
Even if Allardyce can get three or four deals over the line, the task at hands still remains a huge one for the ex-England boss.
With 39 conceded already this season, no team in the Premier League comes close to matching the club’s poor defensive record.
Albion have conceded 14 goals in their last five league appearances and the confidence and morale surrounding the squad is at a visible low.
It was clear to see following the FA Cup defeat to Blackpool, with fans slating the players when a photo emerged of them looking dejected after the penalty shoot out.
That was followed by a worrying report from The Athletic’s Steve Madeley, who claimed that Matheus Pereira is not exactly happy with the club.
Allardyce might be able to bring in three or four players this month, but if he cannot lift spirits at the Hawthorns, then the writing may be on the wall already.
