PL giants keep West Brom waiting on transfer deal, Celtic to make rival bid – Sky Sports
West Brom want to sign Japhet Tanganga but Tottenham are yet to make a decision on whether to let him go, as per Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas.
The 21-year-old has barely featured under Jose Mourinho this season and Albion are believed to want him on loan, according to the Daily Mail.
However, they now face a transfer battle as interest has emerged from Celtic and another Premier League club.
West Brom could be favourites to sign Tanganga, however, as Mourinho is keen for the youngster to get game time and believes Albion can offer him that.
Leaving things late
West Brom’s weaknesses were clear for all to see coming into the transfer window, so it is disappointing that many of our dealings have been left to the last minute.
It would be good to see Tanganga and Okay Yukuslu arrive on deadline day, but questions must be raised about the recruitment team.
Sam Allardyce made it clear that he wanted four new options early in January, yet up until last Friday we had only made two signings – Robert Snodgrass and Andy Lonergan.
That simply is not good enough, particularly as we have missed out on points in the last few games.
If we had strengthened the defence and midfield prior to the Fulham clash we could have come away with three points, as it was our defensive frailties that let us down.
That would have softened the blow of Newcastle and Brighton’s weekend wins, but instead we have shot ourselves in the foot by delaying transfers.
What’s more, it appears we might miss out on players like Josh King and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
If we had acted more swiftly they may have joined, and the likes of Tanganga and Yokuslu would have been well prepared for our upcoming match against Sheffield United.
That is another vital game but we risk lining up with the same squad that could only manage a draw with Fulham.
