‘One of the worst signings in ages’, ‘Bottled it’ – Some Albion fans react to 22y/o star

West Brom extended their dreadful run with a loss to Tottenham on Sunday but since the match ended some fans have been discussing Grady Diangana, who did not even play.

The winger has not featured for Albion since the beginning of the year – in the 4-0 defeat to Arsenal.

It is a little surprising that he is a topic of discussion, as he has not played a role in the recent defeats.

He did however contribute to just one win in 15 league games prior to his injury, scoring just a single goal in that time.

Like many of his teammates, the 22-year-old has struggled with the step-up to the Premier League.

Some supporters likely had greater expectations of Diangana too, since he was signed for £18million in the summer and was a key performer last season.

His eight goals and seven assists were vital to our promotion campaign, yet he has looked a shadow of his former self with a WhoScored rating of 6.4 this term.

Fans have been questioning why that is, and one supporter pointed out the differing defensive styles of Premier League and Championship defences.

That is an interesting point, but it may be even more simple than that.

Diangana, as is likely the case with most of the squad, is suffering from a lack of confidence.

This dire run has existed since the season kicked off against Leicester on the opening day, a match we lost 3-0.

There is a clear lack of belief amongst the players, which Sam Allardyce has been unable to turn around since he came in.

Here is some of the discussion taken place surrounding Diangana’s drop in form.
