Sam Allardyce has offered Okay Yokuslu some stunning praise by comparing the West Brom loanee to Fernando Hierro and Ivan Campo.
Big Sam managed the Spanish stars during his successful eight-year stint as Bolton boss and they were favourites among Trotters fans after both enjoyed long spells at La Liga giants Real Madrid where they won the Champions League on multiple occasions.
Both players were adept at playing the holding role in front of the defence and while refusing to put him on a pedestal so early in his Albion career, Big Sam sees similar traits in Yokuslu.
As reported on the Express and Star website, Allardyce has been thoroughly impressed by the instant impact of his new recruit, saying: “I can’t put him in the category of Fernando Hierro, or Ivan Campo, but he’s not far off.
“They were Real Madrid greats when they were playing for that club, but he’s certainly got a very good passing range like those two boys had.
“If I’m talking about him in the same light as them, it’s a big compliment for him.
“Hopefully, we’ll see him opening up defences more from that position and giving players the freedom to release themselves and the opportunity to attack because he finds them with the right pass.”
Midfield mainstay already
Yokuslu has only made two starts since his deadline-day move from Celta Vigo but already he is having a transformative effect on the team.
Albion are undefeated with him in the starting XI which is no mean feat considering the hefty number of losses we have suffered this season.
The Turkey international has been an absolute colossus in front of the back four so far.
According to Wyscout he won 92% (11/12) of his duels against Manchester United and made four clearances.
He followed that up by making a mammoth 10 interceptions in his second start v Burnley and even recorded a 100% dribbling success rate from the three he attempted as the Baggies battled bravely with 10 men.
It might seem like Big Sam has piled the pressure on by mentioning two former Spanish internationals in the same breath as Yokuslu but based on his stunning start to life in the West Midlands, he can handle anything thrown at him.
