West Brom will be aiming to stretch their unbeaten run to four games on Thursday and news that Everton could be without four first-team players comes as a boost.
Everton played Southampton on Monday so Albion will have the advantage of a couple of days extra rest.
They picked up three points in that game but not without consequence.
Seamus Coleman, James Rodriguez, Tom Davies and Allan will be checked ahead of playing West Brom, with the latter returning on Monday for the first time since picking up an injury in December.
Carlo Ancelotti told BBC Sport: “We have time to recover for Thursday. Allan was back after two months, we have to take care of this, it might be more difficult for him.
“We have to check on James, Seamus Coleman and Tom Davies for Thursday.”
If any of the players mentioned above are not fit to play then West Brom will benefit.
All four have played a key part this season despite injuries, and we should take confidence if they do not line up at The Hawthorns.
Ancelotti seemed particularly concerned about Allan’s fitness as it would be asking a lot of the midfielder to play two games in four days at this stage of his recovery.
That could be very significant.
The Brazilian is a key player for Ancelotti, with the Italian bringing him to Merseyside after managing him at Napoli.
He gave him an important first-team role when he joined, too, and Allan would provide a stern test for Okay Yokuslu.
The Turk has been hugely impressive for us since joining and he should be able to dominate midfield if Allan is unavailable.
We must show energy and intensity to take advantage of Everton’s possible fatigue – particularly if the four above play.
The fact they will need to be checked shows they are probably not at 100%, and we can use that against them to grab some more vital points.
Big Sam will be determined to get one over on his old team and hopefully that translates into a positive response from his players.
In other West Brom news, Kevin Phillips has tipped this player to “take the league by storm” if Albion sign him in the summer.
