Grady Diangana pushes for West Brom start after recovering from illness

Grady Diangana has had a horror start to 2021 but the West Brom winger is pushing for selection against Crystal Palace, according to the Express & Star.

The 22-year-old has now fully recovered from injury and a recent bout of illness.

Diangana was sidelined with a hamstring injury after being forced off the pitch against Arsenal in early January.

He was due to return for the win over Wolves but triggered that issue again in training the day before.

Diangana finally recovered to feature in a cameo appearance against Brighton but has missed the last two games through illness.

However, he played a part in an Under-23s game against Burnley on Monday so could be ready to take on the Eagles and start for the first time in the league since the defeat to Arsenal on January 2.

Too little too late?

We have missed Diangana over the last few months even if he has not lived up to his high standards this term.

The last few games have exposed our need for a pacy, direct winger, as neither Matt Phillips nor Matheus Pereira offer that.

The former missed a big chance to win the game against Newcastle – a goal that would have given us renewed hope of staying up.

As for Diangana, it is a little harsh to judge him on the first half of the season as we were simply awful then.

Now he will be reintroduced to an organised team that possesses much more of an attacking threat and we are excited to see him link-up with Mbaye Diagne.

The remaining few weeks of the campaign can allow Diangana to get back up to speed and prepare well for next year.

If we do go down it is important we carry some momentum into the Championship and a high-flying Diangana could make a huge difference.

He certainly has the ability to provide that boost.
