Glenn Hoddle was wowed by Matheus Pereira after the midfielder inspired West Brom to a 5-2 win over Chelsea.

The Brazilian scored two delightful first-half goals to turn the game around in Albion’s favour, following Thiago Silva’s red card for Chelsea.

The equaliser was a well-taken lob by Pereira before a deft finish gave West Brom the lead – Hoddle was left impressed by both finishes.

During BT Sport’s live coverage of the game, Hoddle said, “It was a fantastic cute lob but even better it was a cuter run, the timing of his run is perfect.

“He goes early, he reads that ball…what a cute finish but he’s gone, he’s caught Chelsea coming out.

“It’s a fabulous finish but even more importantly a very cute and astute run in the first place keeps his head.

“It’s such a clever and cute goal again.”

“It’s got to be Pereira [for Man of the Match]. He’s been excellent he’s been a focal point for WBA. He’s been the top player today.”

Masterclass

Pereira was without a doubt the best player on a pitch that included multi-million-pound signings like Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic.

He was a constant menace for Chelsea and picked up really clever positions in the penalty box throughout the match.

Pereira’s lob was a delight and the manner in which is turned and found space to net his second was quite remarkable – particularly as Chelsea had conceded just two goals in 14 games under Thomas Tuchel.

In the second half, the Brazilian turned provider with two brilliant assists.

Again he found space to receive Conor Townsend’s skilful flick – Pereira then displayed great composure to lift his head and find the onrushing Mbaye Diagne, who slotted home.

Another astute pass found Callum Robinson who also scored twice – somehow all of his five Premier League goals have come against Chelsea.

We saw the Pereira we all know and love today, let’s hope he shows this kind of form in our eight games left.
