Chris Wilder in the running to be next West Brom manager – Sources

Ex-Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is a potential successor for Sam Allardyce at The Hawthorns, West Brom News has been told.

Wilder, 53, left Bramall Lane by mutual consent last month with the Blades the only team who’ve been below the 19th-placed Baggies in the Premier League for most of the season.

Sam Allardyce is set to walk away from The Hawthorns at the end of the campaign if West Brom are relegated to the Championship due to a break clause in his contract that can be activated by either him or the club.

West Brom News has been told by a source that Wilder is in the running to succeed Big Sam in charge at the Albion with the former Northampton boss not expected to land the job at Celtic.

Sheffield United News reported last month that Wilder could have been on his way to Celtic Park after the Scottish giants sacked Neil Lennon.

However, Wilder is unlikely to fill the vacancy in Glasgow’s East End and has instead emerged on the radar of the Baggies.

West Brom were linked with Wilder in 2019 before they hired Slaven Bilic after the now-former Sheffield United manager led the Yorkshire club to promotion to the Premier League [Express & Star].

However, Albion’s move for Bilic and Wilder’s decision to stay at Bramall Lane worked out well for both managers as the West Midlands club won promotion as Championship runners-up and the Blades secured a ninth-place finish in the Premier League.

Things have not gone as well this season though with both Bilic and Wilder leaving West Brom and Sheffield United respectively with the two teams staring relegation back to the Championship in the face.
