West Brom Super Fans react to Matheus Pereira transfer news

This is part of a regular series from our panel of West Brom Super Fans. Each week, our Super Fans will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around The Hawthorns.

Matheus Pereira has been heavily linked with a transfer exit from West Brom this summer and our Super Fans are split on what they think will happen.

A report from The Athletic this week suggests Aston Villa are the latest club to show an interest in Matheus Pereira.

And in reaction to that news, Express & Star journalist Joseph Masi discussed the Brazilian’s potential departure, and the fee West Brom could get for him [Baggies Broadcast].

Masi believes he could be worth between £18-£21million, but some of our Super Fans think that sum is way below his true value.

Fees of £30million or more have been mooted, based on Pereira’s age, his contract status, and the fact he has scored nine goals and assisted five in his debut Premier League season.

However, since the 24-year-old has proved himself in the top-flight he could be keen to stay there.

That means there is a risk of Pereira becoming alienated if we refuse to let him go, and that is a concern for some of the fans below

Here is what they had to say about the news this week and Pereira’s potential move away.

There are some interesting points raised by the Super Fans.

We agree that Pereira’s true value is probably closer to the £25-£30million mark, but in the current financial climate and as a club destined for the Championship, we may be unable to make big demands.

It ultimately comes down to the player himself and whether he is willing to play for us in the Championship.

West Brom

Emi Buendia did at Norwich, and they were able to reject transfer approaches for him before building a Championship winning side around the Argentine.

Pereira is capable of doing the same, but if a top Premier Legaue side comes in for him it may be difficult to turn down.

We hope the attacking midfielder will repay the faith we have shown in him, and if not we should still demand a good fee – no less than £20million.

In other West Brom news, Michael Owen has predicted the winner of the Black Country derby, and he does not expect it to be a classic.
