We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips predicts West Brom will win the Black Country derby double by beating Wolves at The Hawthorns on Monday.
Sam Allardyce led the Baggies to a 3-2 victory at Molineux in January with Matheus Pereira scoring twice in a five-goal thriller.
Albion are in far better form this time around, winning two and losing just one of their last four Premier League matches.
As for Wolves, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have won just two of their last eight and were battered 4-0 by Burnley at Molineux last time out.
Phillips has shown loyalty to his former club West Brom in his prediction this week but also points to Wolves’ poor form when he says the Baggies will win.
Speaking to West Brom News, Phillips said: “I can’t go against them with it being a local derby.
“They beat them fairly comfortably earlier on in the season but it’ll be a different game this time around.
“Wolves haven’t been great lately so I’m going to go for the Baggies to nick a result and win 1-0.”
Wolves haven’t won at The Hawthorns since 1996. Since then, they’ve won just four out of 23 Black Country derbies.
It’s one of the most one-sided derbies in English football but there’s no room for complacency going into this match.
With Albion all but relegated already, there’s little pressure on the team whereas with Wolves, Nuno will no doubt be needing a result after the horror show versus Burnley last time out.
In other West Brom news, this former Premier League midfielder confirms he’d be keen to join the Albion.
