Joseph Masi: Mbaye Diagne could get a Premier League offer in summer

On-loan West Brom striker Mbaye Diagne could get an offer from a Premier League side this summer, says Express and Star journalist Joseph Masi.

Diagne has scored three goals in 14 games since joining Albion in January and has reportedly garnered interest from Brighton and Crystal Palace, per Football Insider.

Masi referenced that report in assessing where Diagne’s future could lie, and the journalist believes West Brom will also make an offer for the 29-year-old.

Asked if he can see Diagne staying next season, Masi told Baggies Broadcast, “No, to be honest.

“I think there’s a chance he would in the sense that, like Sam said last week, he wants to play in England you’d imagine, that’s why he’s here.

“There’s been reports today [Tuesday] saying Crystal Palace and Brighton are interested in him.

“I think someone will go for him. I think Albion will be interested and I think they’ll speak to him and say ‘do you fancy a year in the Championship’.

“But I think he’ll get an offer from the Premier League.”

Fingers crossed we get him

Diagne has made a good impact at The Hawthorns and though he is not perfect, we would love him to sign on a permanent basis.

He has not lived up to his prolific Galatasaray goalscoring record due to some wayward finishing at times, but we have undoubtedly improved as an attacking unit since he joined.

Diagne has led the line well and Callum Robinson and Matheus Pereira have benefitted playing off him.

The 5-2 win against Chelsea was a prime example of how good Diagne can be, as he dragged defenders out of position to create space and chances for teammates and even grabbed a goal himself with a tidy finish.

He could cause havoc in the Championship due to his strength and his presence in the air – two of his Albion goals have come with his head.

An average of 3.6 aerial duels won per game [WhoScored] shows how dominant he is and under Sam Allardyce he could flourish next term.
