Matt Upson awestruck of ‘Perfect’ Matheus Pereira in West Brom defeat v Arsenal

Matt Upson was left awestruck by West Brom playmaker Matheus Pereira in the 3-1 defeat against Arsenal on Sunday evening.

The Brazilian was our only hope at the Emirates Stadium, and fired home a wonderful solo goal to give us some hope of staying up.

It wasn’t enough in the end, as defeat sent us back down to the Championship next season regardless of Pereira’s efforts.

Speaking on the BBC website via their live blog, Upson couldn’t help but share his delight at the class on show from Pereira.

“The smile on big Sam’s face says it all, It’s an absolutely brilliant goal from Pereira,” he said.

“He leaves Ceballos chasing his shadow, Gabriel tried to get a block it but he can’t. He shoots across goal and it’s in off the post. Inch perfect.”

Perfect example.

If only we had more players that were like Pereira at The Hawthorns.

Despite his goal being phenomenal, it singled out one of the biggest problems we have had all season in the Premier League.

Pereira had to do it all by himself at the Emirates, getting the ball near the halfway line and cruising all the way to the edge of the box before firing home into the bottom corner.

Our defenders get to watch that magic every single week, but then the Brazilian has to watch our embarrassing efforts at keeping the ball out of our own net; something we can’t do.

If this is his final season with the Baggies, Pereira has given us everything and we have to thank him for that, but we cross everything that he sticks around to fire us back into the big time.
