Joseph Masi provides update on the future of loanee Mbaye Diagne
Mbaye Diagne is almost certain to leave West Brom in the summer, according to Express and Star journalist Joseph Masi.
The loan striker has been a key player for Albion since joining in January but there is no agreement in place to sign him permanently.
Galatasaray could demand a significant fee for his services and it is unclear if the 29-year-old wants to remain at The Hawthorns anyway.
Appearing on the Baggies Broadcast podcast, Masi said, “Mbaye Diagne’s highly unlikely to be at Albion next season.
“Well, Allardyce said the club can’t afford him so he won’t be at the club next season if we’re being honest.
“[I’m] 95% sure he won’t be at the club next season.”
Time to freshen things up
It promises to be a huge summer of change at The Hawthorns this summer now Sam Allardyce has announced he will step down.
A number of loanees will return to their parent clubs and others will leave on a free, so there is a chance to rebuild the entire squad.
As well as Diagne, other strikers including Hal Robson-Kanu, Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore are all set to depart.
That would leave Karlan Grant as our sole centre-forward, so we would need to sign several attacking players when the transfer window opens.
The new manager should have the freedom to sign his own players so they will have a great chance to build a promotion-winning squad.
That presents a different kind of pressure but it will be a good test of whoever takes the hotseat.
We look forward to seeing the calibre of players we are linked with and hope Guochuan Lai invests in the squad this summer.
