Alan Nixon: ‘Few issues’ to sort out in West Brom pursuit of Chris Wilder
Chris Wilder remains the number one candidate for West Brom but there are complications in getting a deal sorted, reports The Sun’s Alan Nixon.
As a result, other candidates are still being thought about, though it is likely Albion will attempt to sort out the issues that exist given Wilder is the ‘first choice’.
Wilder would add promotion experience, unlike other candidates John Terry and Frank Lampard, and that may be what appeals to the club hierarchy.
Commenting on the potential deal, Nixon tweeted, “First choice but a few issues to sort there, and other candidates being kept warm.”
Stumbling block
News of there being a few issues is both a little surprising and a bit concerning.
Wilder is unemployed currently so in theory it should be easy to bring him in as long as we pay him an appropriate wage.
And after employing Sam Allardyce and Slaven Bilic recently, that should really not be a problem.
A possible concern could be the transfer budget made available to Wilder, and his ability to spend the money we could make through selling the likes of Sam Johnstone and Matheus Pereira.
It is also possible Wilder is looking for certain assurances when it comes to control over recruitment, as he infamously fell out with the board at Sheffield United due to those reasons.
If these issues persist over the coming weeks it is vital an alternative is line up.
We cannot afford to play catch up with pre-season not far away – that would give us a mountain to climb when it comes to winning promotion.
