Carlton Palmer urges West Brom to hire Chris Wilder

Former West Brom midfielder Carlton Palmer believes Chris Wilder would guarantee the Baggies instant promotion should they hire him for next season.

The club’s pursuit of signing a manager began from the moment Sam Allardyce announced his departure.

Since then, a number of names have been thrown into the hat, but Wilder’s is the one that has stood out.

Per recent reports, the talks he’s held with the Baggies have been positive and the two parties are closing on an agreement. The announcement could happen within a matter of days, but the Birmingham Mail believe that former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard still remains in the mix.

However, Palmer believes that Wilder, and not Lampard should be the club’s primary focus as he will be the right man to carry them back to the Premier League next season.

He told Football FanCast, “I think he’s a really, really good manager. The simple fact is Chris Wilder has done his apprenticeship. He is a top, top manager.

“If he’s ready to get back into the game, for me, West Brom shouldn’t even hesitate. Give him the resources and he’ll get them promoted.”

Excitement building

Since day one we’ve made a case for Wilder to take over, and that day appears to be arriving sooner rather than later.

There have been plenty to play down his achievements because of what happened this past season, but they forget that it’s been one bad season after a number of really good ones.

Securing promotion on five different occasions at any level is not easy, and we have complete faith he’ll get his number six at the Hawthorns next season.

The football we’ve played in the past few years hasn’t been eye-catching, to say the least, and with fans coming back into stadiums, watching his attacking brand of football with pressing the opponents higher up the pitch is something we cannot wait for.

He’s also been lauded as an ‘outstanding‘ manager by Pep Guardiola, and there’s no higher praise than that in today’s day and age.
