Kevin Phillips wants West Brom to sign John Lundstram if Chris Wilder is appointed
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips wants West Brom to have a go at signing John Lundstram if they hire Chris Wilder as their next manager.
Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre reported on Thursday [06:01pm] that Wilder, 53, will soon be unveiled as Albion’s new boss, succeeding Sam Allardyce in The Hawthorns hot seat.
Wilder will face a major rebuild if he is hired with a lot of players set to leave the Baggies at the end of their contracts or loan deals now the season is over.
One of the most concerning areas of the squad is the central midfield with Albion currently heading into next season with Jack Livermore, Romaine Sawyers and Rekeem Harper as their only central players.
Phillips believes Lundstram could be a solid addition for the Albion as he’s set to leave Sheffield United and become a free agent [YorkshireLive].
Speaking to West Brom News, Phillips said: “If Lundstram is a free agent and Wilder’s appointed, you’d have to make a phone call.
“He’s a good player, we’ve seen what he can do in the Premier League and he’d be a good signing for West Brom in the Championship.”
Lundstram was pivotal for Sheffield United in their first season back in the Premier League last time out as he scored five goals and supplied three assists in 34 top-flight appearances.
Even though he’s been linked with a move away from Bramall Lane all season, he’s still been played regularly by Wilder by appearing 28 times in the Premier League as the Blades suffered relegation.
It remains to be seen whether Lundstram would be interested in playing for Wilder at another club but the ex-Everton ace should be a good signing for West Brom given the midfield crisis the next manager will inherit.
