West Brom consider re-hiring Albion favourite Roy Hodgson
West Brom are in the hunt to re-hire Roy Hodgson as their manager, according to Mirror journalist Neil Moxley.
Writing on The Mirror website, Moxley reported the Baggies are “considering a shock move” for Hodgson, who’s left Crystal Palace after he reached the end of his contract in South London.
Hodgson, 73, managed the Albion between February 2011 and May 2012 and is easily one of the club’s most popular manager of the last few decades.
Never go back
Hodgson didn’t spent long at The Hawthorns before he was called upon to manage England but his impact in the Black Country was huge.
Not only did he help Albion avoid relegation from the Premier League in his first season at the club after taking over from Roberto Di Matteo but he also brought in the likes of Ben Foster, Gareth McAuley and re-signed Zoltan Gera before leading the Baggies to a 10th-placed finish.
That 2011/12 season was particularly memorable for a 2-1 win away at Villa Park and the unforgettable 5-1 hammering of Wolves at Molineux.
Who can forget that win at Anfield too when Peter Odemwingie bagged a late winner for West Brom over Liverpool?
In the last 30 years, has there been a manager more wholly loved at The Hawthorns than Hodgson? Gary Megson comes close but he still had a lot of critics.
Hodgson is a modern-day legend at The Hawthorns, as far as managers go. We love him but we don’t want him to come back and potentially tarnish that reputation.
