Chris Lepkowski blown away by West Brom star Sam Johnstone after England debut

West Brom fans up and down the country rejoiced on Sunday evening as Sam Johnstone was handed his England debut.

The Three Lions managed to beat Romania 1-0 at the Riverside, but it was far from straightforward, with now less than a week until the EUROs.

Johnstone was forced into action numerous times and pulled off a magnificent save in the second half to keep his clean sheet intact.

Chris Lepkowski was one who was left thrilled by the keeper on Twitter, who continues to prove his immense worth with save after save no matter who he’s playing for.

“Quite the England debut for Sam Johnstone,” he worte.

“Brilliant.”

What a debut.

Wow. That was one of the best England debuts we can recall in recent years.

Everyone will have expected Johnstone to have had nothing to do for 90 minutes against a poor Romanian side, but he was once again thrown under the bus by a poor defence ahead of him.

Thankfully, he was used to that every single week in the Premier League, but the likes of Tyrone Mings gave him no protection.

Johnstone pulled off some great saves to keep his clean-sheet, but that reaction save in the second-half was arguably one of his best all season.

It will take a lot to beat that finger-tip save from Harry Maguire at The Hawthorns, but this was up there with his best efforts.

We can’t remember Jordan Pickford or Dean Henderson pulling off saves like that for England, and surely this has left Gareth Southgate with a slight headache.
