Alan Nixon: Compensation for Valerien Ismael has not been accepted yet
Journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that the £2million compensation West Brom will have to pay to appoint Barnsley manager Valerien Ismael has not been accepted yet.
The Guardian reported on Friday, that Ismael was set to become the new West Brom manager.
Nixon, via his personal Twitter account, said that the Ismael side of the deal won’t be too hard and it’s down to the Baggies to match his valuation.
Thus far, West Brom haven’t tabled an offer and nothing has been accepted by Barnsley.
Looking forward to this
As it was with Chris Wilder, the ball is in our court, especially Guochuan Lai’s court who decided to pull the plug on the former Sheffield United manager.
The stumbling block there wasn’t the compensation, and we’re hoping history doesn’t repeat itself with Lai as Ismael seems like the right man to get us back to the Premier League.
He took over the reins at Barnsley in October, and within months turned around the fortunes of the club and helped them qualify for the playoffs – something that would’ve seemed impossible at the time.

The Frenchman has experience managing overseas and in the Europa League as well, so he’s got the know-how of managing in the big games, and he would be ideal to kick start this rebuild at the Hawthorns.
He was also on Crystal Palace’s shortlist for their vacant managerial position, so he’s undoubtedly a very sought after manager, and if not West Brom, he will find another club that could help take his stature to the next level.
Ismael may not have won any major honours at the top level as a manager yet, but he does have two Regionalliga Nord (German fourth division) titles in the bag and could add another one at the Hawthorns next season as we’re certainly one of the favourites.
