Alan Nixon responds to whether Valerein Ismael’s move to West Brom has collapsed
Alan Nixon issued a cryptic response when asked whether there was a chance that Valerein Ismael’s expected move to West Brom could collapse.
The Sun journalist was asked by a Barnsley fan on his personal Twitter profile whether the current Tykes boss was set for The Hawthorns.
Nixon replied: “Been finalising it for a couple of days now…[thinking emoji]”
He issued a few follow-up replies to numerous messages, including one when asked if ex-Everton manager Marco Silva was used as a tool for lowering Ismael’s compensation.
“West Brom have been focused on Ismael for the past four to five days, that’s it,” he wrote.
Cryptic
We’re no detectives, but the second part of Nixon’s message in his first tweet hints that there could be a potential hitch to the deal.
After all, we have come to expect issues in our hunt for a new manager.
It’s been well documented that we have struggled to entice manager’s since Sam Allardyce stepped down from his role, or we have pulled out for various other reasons.
It was a surprise that Ismael became a prominent contender after everything we had heard about our reluctance to shell out on a compensation fee, with his a fairly hefty £2million.
That problem appeared to have been resolved, but are there are other issues to iron out? Perhaps the finer details of his contract, or the make-up of his backroom staff?
We’re left speculating, and that’s all down to the Baggies board.
It’s all very well for people to stress patience, but when we’ve already been through the mill this summer, and with pre-season starting in five days, it’s normal to start worrying about what’s next around the corner in this circus.
Let’s hope we get this sorted as soon as possible, and we can look ahead to what is sure to be another rollercoaster season in the Championship.
In other West Brom news, this Albion youngster has been spotted signing a deal with Chelsea.
