West Brom want to sign Liverpool winger Harry Wilson

West Brom are in the hunt to sign Wales international Harry Wilson who can leave Liverpool this summer, according to The Athletic.

The online news outlet claims Albion are battling Premier League new boys Brentford for the 23-year-old’s signature and have registered their interest, while Portuguese giants Benfica have made an approach which has proved unsuccessful so far.

Liverpool want at least £13million for the winger, as per The Athletic’s report, with Wilson, currently on international duty with Wales at Euro 2020, keen to leave Merseyside this summer.

Pereira replacement?

Surely Wilson is too costly for us?

Apart from his wages, which are likely to put him near the top of our earners, a £13million fee would surely take a hefty cut of our transfer budget for the forthcoming season.

That’s unless Matheus Pereira is sold.

The Brazilian is likely to command a big fee this summer, if the Albion board decide to cash in on him after a stellar season in the Premier League.

We don’t want to lose Pereira, but Wilson would be among the best possible replacements.

That’s not to say they’re similar players – Pereira is more dynamic, while Wilson is famed for spectacular long-range efforts and inch-perfect set-piece deliveries.

He scored seven times for Cardiff City in the Championship last season, including a hat-trick versus Birmingham City in May leading to many plaudits including beIN SPORTS, who hailed him as “incredible”. He also supplied 11 assists last season.

Wilson also enjoyed a successful loan spell at Derby County in the 2018/19 campaign, scoring 16 goals under “delighted” former Chelsea star Frank Lampard who waxed lyrical about him [Derby Telegraph].

A loan move would be ideal but it looks certain that Wilson will finally be sold by Liverpool after a series of temporary spells away from the club.

This could be one to watch if Pereira exits The Hawthorns this summer.

In other West Brom news, Albion are leading the chase to sign this English captain with 15 goal contributions last season.
