West Brom Super Fans react to report linking Kyle Bartley with cut-price move to Premier League
This is part of a regular series from our panel of West Brom Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our West Brom News Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around The Hawthorns.
West Brom fans have hit out at the idea of selling defender Kyle Bartley for £3million amid interest from Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.
According to the Telegraph, Bartley “could be landed” for around £3million this summer after “emerging as an option” for the top-flight duo.
The 30-year-old only signed a new contract at Albion in February, but the new terms only extend his deal by a year, so he will become a free agent in June 2022.
With the prospect of losing one of their most important players, West Brom fans have understandably reacted with dismay to the Telegraph’s report, with many raising questions over the cut-price fee attached.
We asked our panel of West Brom News Super Fans what they thought of any potential transfer to take Bartley away from The Hawthorns.
Here’s what they had to say…
Many of the fans questioned why Bartley would be sold when he is likely to be an integral player for us this season as we look to make an immediate return to the Premier League.
Bartley played 30 Premier League games last season, scoring three goals, and he was a rare bright spark in a pretty dismal season.
With doubts surrounding the future of Matheus Pereira and Sam Johnstone, who are both expected to leave The Hawthorns this summer, how can we be open to selling another key member of the squad?
Perhaps he is seeking a transfer himself, which would be fair enough considering his age.
But if he has not made any strong signals to suggest he wants out then it’s a pretty bizarre fee to accept for someone who is worth his weight in gold.
