Kevin Phillips expects Kyle Bartley to quit West Brom soon
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kyle Bartley has likely suggested to West Brom that he wants to quit the Black Country club this summer, according to Kevin Phillips.
On July 8, The Telegraph reported that Bartley, 30, is attracting interest from Newcastle and Crystal Palace with the Baggies reportedly wanting £3million for the centre-back.
Since then, Albion have moved quickly to sign Matt Clarke on a season-long loan from Brighton to add to Valerien Ismael’s options in the heart of defence.
Phillips believes that his former club made that signing because they are expecting Bartley to move on this summer.
Speaking to West Brom News, Super Kev said: “The player’s probably hinted that he wants to leave, hence why they’ve moved quickly to bring another defender in so they’re not left short-handed.
“I would imagine it would be a matter of time before Kyle moves to another club.
“Where? Who knows? But I’m sure there have been talks going on in the background because they acted quickly by bringing Clarke in.”
Bartley has made 105 appearances in all competitions for West Brom after joining them from Swansea in 2018.
While he struggled to impress in the Championship, he was arguably the club’s best centre-back last season as they were relegated from the Premier League.
Sam Allardyce’s appointment as manager certainly helped to improve the former Leeds man, who could be on his way out of The Hawthorns to return to the top-flight.
In other West Brom news, fans should be excited by this young trio who could shine in the Championship next season.
