Matheus Pereira frozen out at West Brom by Valerien Ismael
Matheus Pereira has been “effectively frozen out” by West Brom manager Valerien Ismael, according to The Athletic’s Steve Madeley.
Pereira, 25, failed to feature in Albion’s pre-season friendlies against Woking and Sheffield Wednesday amid speculation surrounding his future at The Hawthorns following the club’s relegation last season.
It is understood that the Baggies want to get at least £25million from selling the Brazilian this summer but Ismael could also be open to loaning him out for the season and using the loan fee to help add to his squad.
Madeley adds that Pereira has been cast aside by Ismael for now due to his poor performance in training with the attacking midfielder accepting the decision as he tries to leave this Black Country before the transfer window closes.
Let’s hope it doesn’t get ugly
We’ve seen over the years how ugly things can get when players try to leave West Brom.
Saido Berahino and Peter Odemwingie are top massive examples of how players who were once adored by fans can become public enemy number one at The Hawthorns.
With us being relegated last season, it was always expected that Pereira would move on.
In his debut season at The Hawthorns, you could tell that he was too good for the Championship and despite a couple of stuttering spells in the Premier League, the Brazilian confirmed his ability to perform in England’s top-flight.
Albion have held onto players for too long in the past and kept them past their peak market value.
Right now, it’s hard to see how Pereira’s value is going to improve unless he’s sold this summer or at least loaned out to a Premier League club.
He might not be happy with a loan but if no one wants to match West Brom’s valuation for a permanent deal, it could be the only option.
