West Brom starlet Quevin Castro pushing for first-team spot
West Brom starlet Quevin Castro has impressed in the short time he has been at the club and is pushing for a first-team spot, according to The Athletic.
They claim that the 19-year-old was initially “signed for the club’s development group”, but he has managed to convince Valerien Ismael and his coaching staff in “training”, and he is now pushing for “Championship appearances” this season.
The midfielder has clearly done well in training, and it is fantastic to see that Ismael is willing to give him a chance in the Championship and to be involved in the first team.
Castro is clearly impressing!
West Brom signed Castro in June, and he has been at the club for just over a month, making a big impact. That’s brilliant to hear.
The 19-year-old is naturally an attacking midfielder but can play further back as well, so it will be interesting to see where he fits into the Baggies side.
West Brom do have a few options in the middle of the park, although they don’t have Conor Gallagher or Ainsley Maitland-Niles anymore, so Castro could have a chance to feature as a central midfielder.
He has been described as “exciting” by Kevin Campbell, and he has clearly impressed the West Brom coaching staff [Football Insider].
The fact that he has taken his opportunity with both hands and forced his way into the first-team plans after just over a month is very impressive and indicates he has the right attitude.
So, we will have to see what happens, but we are pleased for Castro and hope that he does feature for the first team this season.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies are unlikely to sign a replacement for one star man, if he leaves.
