West Brom in hunt to sign free agent Adam Reach

West Brom are interested in signing winger Adam Reach on a free transfer after he was released by Sheffield Wednesday, according to Alan Nixon.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Sunday, The Sun journalist reported that Reach, 28, could be a “surprise addition” at The Hawthorns this summer.

It is understood that as well as the Baggies, Blackburn are also keen on the left-winger, who has over 300 Championship appearances to his name.

Reach made 44 appearances in the second-tier last season as Sheffield Wednesday were relegated, scoring five goals and supplying three assists in the process for Darren Moore’s side.

Moore, as quoted by the Sheffield Star in March, hailed Reach for his “wonderful ability” on the left-wing.

Another free agent?

West Brom’s business this summer has been slow and has likely been stalled by the failure to cash in on Sam Johnstone and Matheus Pereira.

Cashing in on both of those players should give the Baggies the biggest transfer budget they’ve ever had in the Championship.

However, it seems as though that if they are not sold, Valerien Ismael doesn’t have the “healthy budget” that chief executive Xu Ke mentioned last month [E&S].

Since hiring Ismael, West Brom have signed midfielder Alex Mowatt on a free transfer and defender Matt Clarke on a season-long loan from Brighton. It’s hard inspiring after losing so many players at the end of last season.

We saw our entire starting central midfield leave with Conor Gallagher, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Okay Yokuslu reaching the end of their loan deals and only Mowatt has been signed to replace them.

Reach is a left-winger and in our opinion, is not a priority.

However, getting him in to add some strength in depth and bolster what looks like a very weak bench isn’t a bad idea.

But Albion need to do a lot more than sign free agents and loanees if they want to impress an increasingly impatient fanbase.
