Kevin Phillips thrilled as West Brom sign Adam Reach
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has raved about West Brom for pulling off a deal to sign Adam Reach on a free transfer following his release by Sheffield Wednesday.
On Monday, Albion announced on Twitter that Reach, 28, had become the latest new addition at The Hawthorns, signing a three-year deal.
The ex-Sheffield Wednesday ace can play pretty much anywhere on the left, filling in as a left-back, wing-back or, in his preferred role, as a winger.
Reach has over 300 Championship appearances to his name and adds a lot of experience to the Baggies squad and that has impressed ex-Albion striker Phillips.
Speaking to West Brom News, he said: “Technically, he’s a very good player.
“He chips in with goals and whenever he does score, they seem to be worldies.
“It’s sensible to be looking at free agents for players to come in as a squad player, especially in this day and age where finances are tight due to COVID.
“He’s also got that experience, he’s been there and done it, he’s a good character in the dressing room and at that right age.
“It’s sensible business to get in a player of his quality.”
Reach has become the fourth new signing for Valerien Ismael, joining Alex Mowatt, Matthew Clarke and Quevin Castro in heading to the Black Country this summer.
Reach is likely to have more of a squad role based on the strengths of the squad right now with Ismael already having Conor Townsend to play in the left wing-back role and Callum Robinson and Grady Diangana capable of playing on the left-wing.
In other West Brom news, Peter Odemwingie has sent a message to Matheus Pereira amid the latest controversy at The Hawthorns.
