Morgan Rogers in talks over £9m transfer to Bournemouth, West Brom in line for windfall

Former West Brom winger Morgan Rogers is in talks with Bournemouth over a season-long loan move with an obligation to buy him for £9million, according to the Daily Mail.

The 19-year-old joined Premier League champions Manchester City in an £8million deal in 2018 after spending nine years and making two senior appearances at West Brom.

He has failed to make the breakthrough at the Etihad Stadium, however, despite an impressive loan spell at League One Lincoln City last season that yielded six goals from 28 games.

Rogers was reported to be the subject of Crystal Palace interest earlier this summer, but the Daily Mail now claim that he is in talks with Championship club Bournemouth as they look to replace star man Arnaut Danjuma, who looks set to join Europa League winners Villarreal.

West Brom are in line for a windfall next year after the British newspaper confirmed the West Midland side’s sell-on clause that was inserted into Rogers’ 2019 exit from The Hawthorns.

If only…

Rogers was a hugely talented prospect at B12 and that’s why he was handed his debut as a 16-year-old in February 2019.

However, after joining Manchester City in August 2019, he spent 18 months in the youth and reserve sides before finding his feet in senior football at Lincoln this year.

With Manchester City signing Jack Grealish for £100million to add to their star-studded squad, it looks like Rogers has decided that he has no chance of progression under Pep Guardiola.

Does he now regret making the move from West Brom?

Perhaps, but a move to Manchester City helped to elevate his status and he’s now set to link up with another Championship side aiming for Premier League promotion.

It was a blow for us to lose such a highly-rated talent in 2019, but it looks like we’re set for an influx of cash next year with a sell-on clause inserted.
