Kevin Phillips reacts as Callum Robinson ruled out of West Brom clash v Peterborough United
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips believes Callum Robinson will be a big miss for West Brom in their Saturday night encounter with Peterborough United.
Robinson, 26, tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week and it has been confirmed that he will miss tonight’s trip to Cambridgeshire [BBC].
The Republic of Ireland international has scored three goals in four Championship outings so far this season, with only Cardiff City’s Aden Flint (four) netting more in the division.
While hopeful someone else will be able to profit from his absence, ex-Albion striker Phillips has suggested it will make their task to beat Posh more difficult.
“It’s a huge blow,” Phillips told West Brom News.
“He’s been their top scorer so far and managed to get an assist as well, so it’s not ideal.
“But I think every club is having to deal with it and there are players that are missing. As I always say, it’s an opportunity for someone else to come in.
“But it’s still a huge blow for them against Peterborough.”
Albion head into tonight’s fixture unbeaten so far in the Championship, winning three games and drawing the other one.
Peterborough, meanwhile, have lost twice already in the league as they seek to adapt back to life in the second-tier following League One promotion.
The two sides have not played each other since February 2016 when they met in the FA Cup, with Albion claiming the victory on penalties.
