New West Brom man Jayson Molumby reveals why he moved to the Hawthorns

New West Brom signing Jayson Molumby has revealed that talks with his national team manager Stephen Kenny convinced him to move to the Hawthorns.

Speaking to RTE, the central midfielder also revealed just how much he was looking forward to playing for the Baggies after he joined them on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.

West Brom completed their move for the 22-year-old very quickly and have an option to buy inserted into the contract.

Valerien Ismael now has plenty of options to choose from in the centre of the park.

This is what Molumby said about West Brom: “As soon as West Brom were in touch, I was delighted and eager to jump in on that one.

“Throughout the window, I spoke obviously to the gaffer (Kenny) on different things, and I spoke to people who look after me and just family and friends, so I just wanted to make the right decision, and that’s probably why it took so long for me to end up going out on loan.

“I just wanted to get a feel for it, so I’m just really happy to be at West Brom, and I’m really looking forward to the season, and I feel like I’ve made the right decision.”

The midfielder also revealed the role that Ismael played in convincing him to join the Baggies.

“That was vital and crucial to speak to the manager to know what he expects and know what he wants. I’m really looking forward to getting in and training properly with the team, learning, and hopefully, I can contribute to help the club.”

What to expect from Molumby?

The 22-year-old has made nine appearances for the Republic of Ireland and has had time out on loan with both Millwall and Preston North End in the Championship.

So in total, he has made 51 Championship appearances despite being just 22.

He is seen as a box-to-box midfielder with a good engine, so we would imagine that he will fit in perfectly with Ismael’s style of play and would be surprised not to see him play an important role this season [The Irish News].

He sounds very excited about the move, and we hope that this works out well for both him and the Baggies.

In other West Brom news, the club are desperately looking to get rid of one player ahead of the transfer deadline.
