West Brom and Al Hilal’s Matheus Pereira payment plan detailed

Al Hilal are understood to be paying Matheus Pereira’s transfer fee to West Brom over a four-year period, according to the Express and Star.

The 25-year-old left The Hawthorns in August after a summer saga started to ensue with the Brazilian keen to leave the club following Premier League relegation.

Express and Star reporter Joesph Masi has addressed concerns over Albion’s lack of summer spending on Thursday [02/09/21] following the sale of their most prized asset earlier in the window.

He wrote: “While Pereira did leave for Al Hilal, he left for significantly less than was expected.

“While it has never been confirmed, the Express and Star understands the Saudi Arabian side landed the Brazilian in a £17million deal.

“But the structure of that deal sees Al Hilal pay Albion £4.25million a year for four years.”

Low-balled?

West Brom fans were expecting big sums to be offered for their influential playmaker this summer after he starred for the club last term, despite the Baggies’ relegation.

Pereira struck 11 times in the Premier League and supplied six assists but it seems no club was willing to shell out on a big fee to prise him from The Hawthorns.

West Ham were the English club most heavily linked with a move while Leeds United and Leicester City were also mentioned, but it was Al Hilal who won the race in the end.

Given his quality and end product in the Premier League last season supporters may have expected a fee between £20-30million at least.

However, it appears that the eventual fee will reach nowhere near that figure, while Albion will only actually see £4.25million of that this year.

That’s pretty common in transfers these days – they are usually spread over several years – but that will surely feel like an insulting amount to Albion supporters.
