Carlton Palmer: Jordan Hugill has been fantastic in the West Brom dressing room
West Brom loanee Jordan Hugill has been fantastic in the dressing room since joining from Norwich City, according to Carlton Palmer.
The Baggies brought the 29-year-old English forward to The Hawthorns last month to bolster their attack, and Valerien Ismael will be hoping his Championship expertise can come in handy.
Hugill is already having a desired impact behind the scenes from the look of things, with Palmer sharing what he has heard about the former Preston North End striker.
“From what I’ve heard, he’s absolutely fantastic in the dressing room,” the former Albion may told This Is Futbol.
“If you’ve got a player like Jordan in and around your squad, when he’s in the team, he comes in and does a great job.
“And if he’s not in the side, he’s not causing you a moment’s problem. He just gets on, trains hard and is great around the lads – good business.”
Canaries boss Daniel Farke said of Hugill in April following his side’s promotion (via Birmingham Mail): “He’s a key player for me. I don’t just rate a player because of his minutes and his impact on the pitch.
“You don’t win a title or promotion just as 11 players. A leader in our dressing room and one of the main topics why we were promoted.”
The German has highlighted that the new West Brom man is not necessarily all about the goals, but he brings a great personality to the table, and having such players in the squad goes a long way in boosting the team’s promotion chances.
Hugill made his debut for Ismael’s side against Peterborough, and while he had no hand in Semi Ajayi’s late winner, the way he joined in with the celebrations indicates he already gets the memo.
The former West Ham United man knows what Championship football and promotion are all about, bagging 13 goals in 39 league games for Queens Park Rangers in 2019-20, and 20 league goals in his last 18 months at Preston before joining the Hammers in January 2018.
West Brom need such a player in the dressing room, and having proven at Norwich that he can be key to keeping the spirits up, Ismael may have landed more than just a promotion-enhancing striker in his side’s bid to secure an instant return to the top-flight.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies ace has picked up a nasty injury on international duty.
