Gary Rowett admits he is still interested in West Brom man Jayson Molumby
Millwall manager Gary Rowett has admitted that he is still interested in West Brom summer signing Jayson Molumby.
The 22-year-old has joined the Baggies on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion with an option to buy.
However, he has spent time on loan with the Lions, and the club did try to buy him in January, and it appears as if Rowett is still keen on the Republic of Ireland international [South London Press].
He said: “Their manager spoke about him off the ball and how much quality he has – we saw that ourselves. We know he’s got quality on the ball as well, so I’m looking forward to seeing how he does.
“We’ve always had a long-standing interest in Jayson.
“He’s always a player we keep an eye on, but we also felt that we needed a slightly different midfielder like George Saville.
“I think it’s probably a good move for Jayson. Of course, we’ll monitor that because he’s a player that we know a lot about and that we think a lot of.”
Rowett not giving up on Molumby.
This is more than a subtle hint that the Millwall boss is still keen on signing Molumby, which is fair enough.
He obviously likes the player, and when Molumby was at the Den, he made 40 appearances, so he became a key part of the team.
However, given that the Baggies have an option to buy inserted into the deal, we can’t see how the Lions could sign him if Molumby impresses and plays well [Birmingham Mail].
If he struggles at the Hawthorns, then you would think that Millwall could come in for him and make an offer, but that is the only way we can see Rowett getting his hands on the player.
Hopefully, Molumby impresses, and it would be fantastic to see him make his debut for Valerien Ismael’s side today.
The 22-year-old has been handed a good chance to impress under a progressive and exciting manager, and we want to see him thrive.
