West Brom fans booed team off at full-time v Derby
The West Brom players were subject to harsh jeering from the Hawthorns faithful after the 0-0 draw against Derby, claims Steve Madeley.
After failing to beat Millwall on the weekend, many expected a different outcome, but that did not happen, much to the dismay of the home fans.
They made their opinions on the team’s performance loud and clear at the full-time whistle, and The Athletic’s Madeley believes that they were a tad harsh with their assessment of the side.
Via his personal Twitter account, he said, “Some very harsh boos at the final whistle. First half wasn’t great but the second half was constant Albion pressure. Frustrating but not deserving of jeers.”
Valerien Ismael’s footballing philosophy was supposed to be high pressing and attacking, but that doesn’t seem to be leading to bucketloads of goals.
It seemed like the Baggies threw the kitchen sink at it, trying to nick something because their plan did not seem to be working.
The blame for this kind of performance falls on the lack of ability to finish off our chances, with so many being created from crosses and set-pieces.
It’s not the kind of response one would expect in front of the home fans, especially after an abject draw at the weekend.
While the Baggies are still joint-top, a win for either Fulham or Stoke City could see them relinquish that position.
It’s not wise to read too much into the table this early in the season, but finishing like these are not going to help West Brom stay in the promotion places until the end of the season.
Things need to change soon and Ismael must come up with a response at the weekend against Preston North End.
