Gabby Agbonlahor issues Midlands dig after West Brom draw v Preston
West Brom drew for a third successive game at Preston on Saturday, a result that appeared to go down well with Gabby Agbonlahor.
The ex-Aston Villa striker, speaking on talkSPORT after his old side beat Everton 3-0 at Villa Park, aimed a light-hearted dig at the likes of Albion and Birmingham City.
He said: “It’s nice for one team in the Midlands to win today, isn’t it?”
Agbonlahor is clearly keen to celebrate Villa’s win after an underwhelming start to the season.
Their first Premier League victory since August 21 came at a good time for the former England international as their Midlands rivals faltered.
Wolves lost 2-0 at home to Premier League new boys Brentford, Birmingham were hammered 3-0 at Peterborough United while Coventry City were held to a 1-1 draw [v Millwall], just like Albion.
Meanwhile, in League Two, Walsall lost 2-1 to Newport County.
However, Valerien Ismael won’t be paying too much mind to the results of those around them, locally speaking.
It’s the performances, and results, of West Brom that will be causing him concern.
Albion made a scintillating start to their 2021/22 campaign, winning four of their first five Championship games, but they have hit a buffer since the international break, drawing all three games.
Ismael must now rally his troops for a clash against QPR at The Hawthorns next Friday as he aims to lift his side back into the automatic promotion places.
