Kevin Phillips predicts West Brom clash v Preston North End
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips predicts West Brom to return to winning ways when they take on Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday.
Valerien Ismael’s men have drawn their last two matches against Millwall and Derby with Fulham reclaiming top spot in the Championship from the Black Country club.
Some sections of the Albion support booed the players in the 0-0 draw with Derby at The Hawthorns on Tuesday night and Phillips feels the pressure is starting to rise for Ismael for the first time since his appointment in the summer.
Phillips believes the Baggies need to stop their winless run extending to three games and he expects them to snatch a 2-1 win in Lancashire.
“It’ll be a tough match, Deepdale is always a tough place to go and play,” Phillips told West Brom News.
“I think the biggest thing for Ismael is lifting those players. From the manager’s point of view, this is where the test comes.
“I said all along it’ll be tough for Ismael and now the pressure is on with the crowd giving them a little bit of stick for drawing the last two games.
“Now it’s up to the manager to pick the right team and to get those players to put a performance in. If they respond with a win then it doesn’t look bad but if you draw again, all of a sudden the pressure is on.
“I see West Brom nicking it.
“They have that little bit more quality than Preston so I can see them putting in a dogged performance and winning it 2-1.”
West Brom have won all of their last five meetings with Preston and haven’t lost to the Lancashire outfit since 2008.
