West Brom fans booed Valerien Ismael's decision to withdraw Diangana v QPR

West Brom came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers on Friday night, with Karlan Grant emerging as the hero.

The 24-year-old attacker grabbed the equaliser in the 75th minute before bagging the winner in the 88th minute, and Valerien Ismael is surely a relieved man.

The Baggies had gone three league games without a win prior to QPR’s visit, and the fans were far from happy with those results and performances.

With West Brom chasing an equaliser, the Frenchman withdrew Grady Diangana and brought in Jordan Hugill in his place.

It was not a decision that the fans loved, and according to The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley, some of the home fans booed it.

Writing on his personal Twitter account during the game, the reporter posted: “Hugill and Robinson on for Albion.

“Phillips and Diangana off.

“The decision to withdraw Diangana draws some boos.”

Impatience?

Withdrawing Diangana 10 minutes into the second-half is a bold decision, and the fans surely made their feelings known.

The former West Ham winger is capable of producing a moment of magic given his talent, and the supporters wanted him on the pitch for as long as possible.

However, Ismael had other ideas, and he would not have been fazed with the reaction the substitution got.

The fans do not see what the head coach sees, and he knows what is best for his team more than they do.

He is paid to call the shots, and while it was not Hugill that scored, his other sub Callum Robinson was the one that provided Grant with both assists of the night.

Diangana surely would have been disappointed that he was hauled off that early after the restart, but he clearly was not doing what the boss wanted, and that should inspire him to do better next time.

West Brom picked up valuable three points, and Ismael’s decisions made the win happen.

In other West Brom news, Steve Madeley was baffled by strange thing Baggies ace said ahead of QPR clash.
