Adrian Goldberg shares why Grady Diangana was hauled off for West Brom v QPR
West Brom fans were left jeering Valerien Ismael last week as he dragged Grady Diangana off against Queens Park Rangers.
Adrian Goldberg believes he knows why with the winger no longer pressing, something Matt Phillips pointed out on the pitch.
Callum Robinson came on and ultimately assisted both of Karlan Grant’s goals to earn the three points at The Hawthorns.
Speaking on the Liquidator Podcast on Monday, Goldberg shared an interesting on-field altercation.
“I was watching Diangana at the start of the second half, and he was not pressing,” he said.
“He was going towards the QPR player, he was not blocking the clearances, he was not cutting out the tackles – Matt Phillips had a go at him at one point.
“Very shortly afterwards he was taken off, and I think that’s why he was taken off.”
No special treatment.
No matter who it is, if they are not doing what Ismael wants of them, then they will be dragged off and replaced.
Diangana wasn’t pressing, and he was replaced for it, especially given the relentless style that the Frenchman brings off the ball.
When your own teammates such as Phillips are calling you out, it is clear that it is one player letting the side down at times.
It would be no surprise to see Diangana start on the bench tomorrow after this revelation, with the winger not delivering goal involvements or the defensive work needed.
Fans may not agree with that decision, but there will be no special treatment for those who the Baggies faithful want to see.
