Sky Sports commentator blown away by 'astonishing' Alex Mowatt after West Brom goal

Alex Mowatt’s stunning strike for West Brom against Cardiff City on Tuesday has drawn widespread acclaim throughout the footballing world.

Many different commentators and pundits have offered their thoughts on his half-volley effort that flew past the helpless Dion Phillips in the Bluebirds goal during the 4-0 win for Valerien Ismael’s side.

Sky Sports shared the strike on their Instagram feed the following day, with commentary from Gary Taphouse.

“Oh my goodness,” he remarked.

“What a spectacular goal that is. Well, that is something very, very special indeed.

“Alex Mowatt with a truly astonishing strike into the top corner.”

Signing of the summer?

Ismael made a number of signings after he made the move from Barnsley to West Brom in the summer, but his first may well turn out to be his most important.

Mowatt served as captain under Ismael at the Tykes, and he was available on a free transfer after his contract at Oakwell expired.

The 26-year-old hasn’t looked back since arriving at The Hawthorns in July.

He has started every one of Albion’s first 10 league games, scoring three goals and registering an assist to help the West Midlands club to the top of the Championship table.

If there was a signing of the season competition for the first ten games, Mowatt would certainly be staking a claim to collect the prize.
