Don Goodman slams Jordan Hugill performance in West Brom clash v Stoke City
Don Goodman wasn’t impressed by Jordan Hugill’s performance for West Brom in their 1-0 defeat to Stoke at the Bet365 on Friday night.
Hugill, 29, was largely ineffective before he was substituted off by Valerien Ismael in the 55th minute.
Since joining on loan from Norwich in the summer, the ex-West Ham striker is yet to score for the Baggies
“He will have far better nights in a West Brom shirt, Jordan Hugill. Of that, I’m sure,” said Goodman as the striker was substituted off while speaking on Sky Sports Football on Friday night.
“It’s been one of those nights tonight.
“You have to give these three central defenders credit for that. All three of them, to a man, have been outstanding.”
No luck for Hugill
When Hugill arrived on loan from Norwich in the summer transfer window, we all knew what we were getting.
He’s a striker who, quite simply, doesn’t score goals. However, he is someone who should offer hold-up play up front and provide an aerial threat due to his power and height.
But he hasn’t even managed that at Albion.
Hugill can try and put in 110 per cent effort when he plays but to be frank, he’s not good enough and we should have signed better in the summer.
West Brom are shy of a goalscoring striker, someone who has a proven record in front of goal in this division.
It’s all well and good having a striker on the pitch who can bring the other attackers into play and help the team get up the pitch, but if he’s not able to do that, what does he offer?
In other West Brom news, this big-money player may never pull on Albion’s colours again.
