Stoke City Super Fan delivers lowdown and Romaine Sawyers verdict ahead of West Brom clash

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Super Fans on upcoming West Brom fixtures. Ahead of Friday’s game against Stoke City, we spoke to Potters fan George, who can be found on Twitter at @StokeyyG2.

West Brom face a daunting trip to Stoke City on Friday night as they bid to keep up their blistering start to the 2021/22 season.

Valerien Ismael is yet to taste a defeat in the league after 10 matches as Baggies boss, but his side’s unbeaten credentials are set to be severely tested at the Bet365 Stadium against fifth-placed Stoke.

Michail O’Neill’s side have only lost two games so far, and both of those defeats came away from home.

Albion, meanwhile, are motoring on again after a sticky patch that saw them record three successive draws.

Tuesday’s 4-0 hammering of Cardiff City ensured they remain top of the Championship, but Stoke could pull to within one point of the West Midlands side with a victory tonight.

Ahead of the game, we spoke to Potters fan George, who can be found on Twitter at @StokeyyG2.

What have you made of your start to the season? Which players could cause Albion trouble tonight?

We started very well, we had one of our best starts we’ve had in a long time but recently we’ve dropped points to teams we should be beating.

Our actual star player, Tyrese Campbell, has been injured since December and that’s been a massive blow for us. But if I was to pick a team sheet for Stoke right now, the first man on that would be our current captain Harry Souttar, who stands at 6ft5in. He’s a rock in defence and I think he’s someone who West Brom will struggle to break down.

How has Albion loanee Romaine Sawyers been getting on at Stoke?

We got to see Romaine’s pure talent last Saturday when he made an absolutely fantastic goal with his assist. He always wants the ball in midfield and although he’s not the most mobile player in midfield, he’s been a great addition.

Are there any West Brom players who Stoke fans are particularly fearful of?

I think the signing of Alex Mowatt is an extremely good piece of business, he’s seemed to fit straight into your squad and I think everyone has seen his two screamers already this season, so that’s someone we should watch out for.

What type of game are we likely to witness tonight? Score prediction?

Honestly, I don’t think this game will include many goals. I do think it will be a game of two great defences. Saying that, I think a team will get a breakthrough goal and on the night I think that will be us and so for that reason, I’m going 1-0 Stoke.
