Jobi McAnuff sends warning to West Brom fans about their club
West Brom fans have been warned by Jobi McAnuff that there will be “blips” and poor results and performances this season.
Speaking on the Sky Sports EFL podcast, the former Reading man revealed that he had been impressed by the Baggies, but he doesn’t want the fans to have too high expectations for their club.
Before the international break, Valerien Ismael’s side lost their first league game of the season and sit in second place before they play Birmingham City on Friday night.
McAnuff said: “I think we have to keep things in perspective when it comes to West Brom.
“I think we’re almost waiting for that result to come to say that maybe they have been sussed out.
“I think overall; they have done a really good job in terms of starting the season. There are going to be blips along the way, particularly with the way they play, with that high energy and that intensity.
“There are going to be days, nights where they just don’t have it in them, and I think they came up against a really good Stoke team, actually, last time out, I’ve got to be honest, and they (Stoke) fully deserved the win.”
Probably a fair warning.
Overall, the Baggies have had a fantastic start to life under Ismael, but there have been a few boos at the Hawthorns this season, which does seem a bit odd [West Brom News].
Yes, there was a little spell in which the Baggies failed to win in three, but they remained unbeaten, and if you look at the league table, then it is happy days.
If they win on Friday, they will jump to the top of the league eight points clear of seventh place, which at this stage of the season is big.
However, McAnuff is probably right that some people need to reel in their expectations and perhaps accept that Ismael’s side might not turn up in the odd match.
Of course, this is fine if they then blow other teams away as they have already this season.
So, McAnuff makes an interesting point here, and we believe that he could be totally spot on.
