Kevin Phillips blown away by Callum Robinson as West Brom star shines for Ireland
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips is delighted to see Callum Robinson back among the goals after the West Brom scored five goals on international duty with Ireland.
Robinson, 26, netted twice in Ireland’s World Cup qualifier victory against Azerbaijan before scoring a hat-trick on Tuesday in the 4-0 hammering of Qatar in a friendly in Dublin.
The former Sheffield United attacker hasn’t scored for the Baggies since August, meaning he’s now gone seven Championship matches without finding the back of the net.
But Phillips is now backing Robinson to return to goalscoring ways with him back on form ahead of Albion’s clash with Birmingham at The Hawthorns on Friday night.
Speaking to West Brom News, Phillips said: “It’s massive.
“He started the season really well but then he got COVID and he’s had a bit of backlash for not getting the injection. And then he goes and shuts everyone up by smashing in those goals and getting himself a hat-trick at the Aviva Stadium.
“It’s brilliant for him and brilliant news for West Brom going into a crucial game against Birmingham.
“I watched them in their last game against Stoke and they were poor on the night so they need to bounce back against Birmingham.
“Having Robinson back in amongst the goals will be a massive boost for West Brom.
“I look forward to watching that game on Friday night.”
Robinson has scored three goals and supplied three assists in 10 Championship appearances this season.
In other West Brom news, this Albion star was slammed by a pundit after an international game earlier this week.
