Kevin Phillips predicts West Brom scoreline v Birmingham
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips predicts West Brom to beat Birmingham when two of his former clubs meet at The Hawthorns on Friday night.
Albion know that a victory against Blues will take them to the top of the Championship table.
Last time out, Valerien Ismael tasted defeat in the league for the first time since his arrival at the club when the Baggies lost to Stoke before the international break.
After losing one Midlands derby, Ismael won’t want to lose another and Phillips sees the Black Country outfit reigning supreme over the Second City club on Friday.
When asked for his score prediction, Phillips said to West Brom News: “Phwoar, I’ve got to be careful here because I was at St Andrew’s last night with Lee Bowyer and Craig Gardner.
“I’m going to have to go with West Brom with it being at The Hawthorns.
“I’d like to sit on the fence with it being two of my old teams but I’m going to go for a narrow 2-1 win for the Baggies.”
West Brom have not lost at home to Birmingham since 2005 when the Baggies lost 3-2.
Out of the last seven meetings between the two West Midlands rivals, the Baggies have won five times and drawn twice.
The last game between Albion and Blues at The Hawthorns was a 0-0 draw.
While no one wants to see their team lose on derby day, a stalemate is unlikely to be viewed as acceptable after Ismael’s men suffered defeat last time out at the hands of Stoke.
In other West Brom news, this Albion star was slammed by a pundit after an international game earlier this week.
